A.B. Brown Generating Station is a natural-gas peaking and intermediate plant on the Ohio River in Posey County, Indiana, near Mount Vernon and Evansville. The site now runs four gas combustion turbines totaling 647.4 MW nameplate (598 MW net summer): two older 88.2 MW units dating to 1991 and 2002, and two new 235.5 MW units that entered service in May and August 2025. Those two new turbines were built to replace the plant's two 265.2 MW coal-fired units, which CenterPoint Energy retired in October 2023 as part of its coal-to-gas transition plan. The plant is operated by Southern Indiana Gas & Electric Co. (SIGECO), doing business as CenterPoint Energy Indiana South, a regulated subsidiary of CenterPoint Energy, which owns the facility. A.B. Brown sells into MISO, settling near price nodes in the SIGECO/Warrick County area of southwestern Indiana. With the coal units gone and no whole-plant retirement scheduled, the station is expected to keep operating as an all-gas facility supporting CenterPoint's broader Indiana generation transition.
