## Reviewed overview

Astoria Station is a 245 MW simple-cycle natural gas combustion turbine in Deuel County, South Dakota, owned by Otter Tail Power Company. After two years of construction and testing it began producing energy in May 2021 and is economically dispatched by MISO. Built to replace expiring capacity purchase agreements and prepare for the Hoot Lake coal plant's retirement, it ramps up quickly as a backstop for wind and solar, with gas delivered by Northern Border Pipeline.
