Cooke Dam is a conventional hydroelectric plant on the Au Sable River in Iosco County, Michigan, with three operating generating units totaling 9 MW of nameplate capacity (7.1 MW net summer). The plant dates to 1911, when it was built by Consumers Power to send electricity 125 miles to Flint at a then-record 140,000 volts, and its powerhouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Consumers Energy still owns and operates the dam and sells its output into the MISO market at Consumers' own price nodes near Alpena. The dams' federal operating licenses, including Cooke's, begin expiring in 2034, and Confluence Hydro has said it intends to pursue relicensing once the transaction is approved.
