East Kentucky Power Cooperative, Inc. - Pulaski County - PJM

Cooper Station, also known as John Sherman Cooper Power Station, is a two-unit, 344 MW coal-fired conventional steam generating facility in Pulaski County near Somerset/Burnside, Kentucky, owned and operated by East Kentucky Power Cooperative, Inc. Both units are pulverized-coal steam turbine generators. The station provides important voltage support for the Southern Kentucky grid within the PJM Interconnection region and withdraws cooling water from Lake Cumberland. EKPC has announced plans to add a new 745-MW natural-gas combined-cycle facility at the site and to convert Unit 2 to coal/natural-gas co-firing capability, with Unit 1 mothballing contingent on the new facility's commercial operation around 2030.
