Moss Landing Power Company, LLC - Monterey County - CAISO

Dynegy Moss Landing Power Plant Hybrid is a 1,848-MW combined generation and energy-storage facility at 7301 State Highway 1 in Monterey County, California. The exact asset comprises a 1,060-MW natural-gas-fired combined-cycle plant (two 530-MW power blocks, each containing two combustion turbine generators, two heat-recovery steam generators, and one steam turbine generator) and 750 MW/3,000 MWh of co-located lithium-ion battery energy storage. The three battery phases are 300 MW/1,200 MWh (Phase I, online December 2020), 100 MW/400 MWh (Phase II, online July 2021), and 350 MW/1,400 MWh (Phase III, online June 2023). Burns & McDonnell provided engineering, procurement, and construction services. The facility is owned by Moss Landing Power Company, LLC (successor to Dynegy Moss Landing, LLC) under Vistra Energy, the current corporate parent following the April 2018 merger with Dynegy. As of January 2026, the natural-gas plant remains operational; the battery facilities have been offline since January 16, 2025, when a fire damaged the 300-MW Moss 300 system. Vistra has decided not to recommission the Moss 100 facility; evaluation of Moss 350 restart continues.
