East River Generating Station is a Con Edison electricity-and-steam cogeneration facility at 701–827 East 14th Street in Manhattan, New York. The station combines legacy natural-gas-fired steam-turbine equipment with two natural-gas-fired combustion turbines, heat-recovery steam generators, and duct-firing equipment installed as part of the 2001–2005 East River Repowering Project. The facility uses natural gas as its primary fuel and low-sulfur distillate as emergency backup. The repowering increased the complex from approximately 300 MW to 660 MW electric capacity and expanded steam generation from 2.7 to 5.7 million pounds per hour. East River is the only generation source located within the lower-Manhattan load pocket and is the largest and most strategically located production resource for Con Edison's steam system, supplying over half of New York City's steam system capacity.
