Edwardsport is a coal-fired Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant in Knox County, Indiana, owned and operated by Duke Energy Indiana, LLC. Recovered heat from the turbines powers a steam turbine. Duke Energy reports 798 MW of winter peak capacity. The plant replaces the former Edwardsport Station, whose three operating coal units (built between 1944 and 1951) were retired in 2011 and demolished in 2012. GE provided gasification technology, combustion turbines, and control systems. Bechtel executed the project design and construction. The plant removes sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, mercury, and particulates, making it one of the cleanest coal-fired generators in the United States.
