Elk Hills Power LLC - Kern County - CAISO

Elk Hills Power LLC is a 550 MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle cogeneration plant located on a 12-acre site in the Elk Hills Oil and Gas Field near Tupman, Kern County, California. The plant, certified by the California Energy Commission on December 6, 2000, began commercial operation on July 24, 2003. It comprises two General Electric 7FA combustion turbine generators, two supplementary-fired heat-recovery steam generators, and a steam turbine generator. The plant's electricity is delivered through a 230-kV switchyard to Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Midway Substation and supplies cogenerated thermal energy to adjacent natural-gas-processing facilities operated by Occidental of Elk Hills, Inc. Approximately one-third of generation supports CRC's oil and natural-gas operations; the balance is marketed into the resource-adequacy market and CAISO wholesale market.
