Battery power (MW) and stored energy (MWh) are separate measures. Shared physical-site membership does not establish electrical connectivity, settlement or a common export limit.

## Reviewed overview

Emporia Energy Center is a natural gas-fired peaking plant in Emporia, Kansas, built by Westar Energy, now part of Evergy. Phase one, four combustion turbines described as a 600 MW peaking plant, entered operation in June 2008, 15 months after construction began, and a second phase followed from July 2009. A 2024 report puts the plant at 650 MW. It is designed to supply energy during peak demand and complements Westar's wind generation.
