Granite Shoals is a 54 MW conventional hydroelectric plant in Burnet County, Texas, made up of two 27 MW units that both entered service in 1951. The plant is owned and operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) at Wirtz Dam, which was originally named Granite Shoals Dam before being renamed in 1951 for LCRA's first general counsel, Alvin J. Wirtz. The dam impounds Lake Lyndon B. Johnson, itself formerly known as Lake Granite Shoals, one of the Highland Lakes chain on the Colorado River. The plant sells into ERCOT and settles at the WIRTZ_WIRTZ_G1 and WIRTZ_WIRTZ_G2 nodes, near LCRA's Thomas C. Ferguson Power Plant on the same lake. No whole-plant retirement is scheduled for either generating unit.
