Hawthorn is an operating five-generator electric generating station at 8700 Hawthorne Road in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, owned and operated by Evergy Metro, Inc. (d/b/a Evergy Missouri Metro). The 1,046.2 MW fleet comprises Unit 5, a 569 MW conventional steam coal generator using subbituminous coal with natural-gas startup and cofiring capability; Unit 6, a 170 MW natural-gas-fired combined-cycle generator; Units 7 and 8, each 82.2 MW natural-gas-fired combustion turbines designed for peaking service; and Unit 9, a 142.8 MW natural-gas-fired combined-cycle steam generator with supplemental duct firing. The station entered service in May 1969.
