Indian Point Energy Center is a retired nuclear power station in Buchanan, Westchester County, New York, comprising three pressurized-water reactor units. Unit 1 operated from 1962 to 1974. Unit 2, a Westinghouse four-loop PWR, operated from August 1, 1974 to April 30, 2020. Unit 3, also a Westinghouse four-loop PWR, operated from August 30, 1976 to April 30, 2021. The facility generated over 565 terawatt-hours during 59 years of operation and supplied approximately 2,311 MW of combined nameplate capacity (Unit 2: 1,299 MW; Unit 3: 1,012 MW). Unit 2 achieved first criticality on May 22, 1973 and first grid connection on June 26, 1973. The site is currently owned by Holtec Indian Point, LLC, licensed and operated for decommissioning by Holtec Decommissioning International, LLC, with Comprehensive Decommissioning International, LLC serving as the general contractor for decommissioning, demolition, and site cleanup. The site comprises 240 acres on the east bank of the Hudson River and is connected to the Con Edison grid via two 345-kV transmission lines at the Buchanan substation.
