Labadie Energy Center is a four-unit coal-fired conventional steam power plant located in Franklin County, Missouri, on more than 1,100 acres adjacent to the Missouri River, approximately 35 miles west of downtown St. Louis. Units 1 and 2 each have 573.7 MW capacity; Units 3 and 4 each have 621 MW capacity. Unit 1 began operating in 1970, and the plant was fully operational in 1973. Units 1 and 2 originally had Westinghouse BB44-design turbine-generators; Units 3 and 4 have General Electric G-2-design turbine-generators. Environmental-compliance projects including ash-pond closure were completed in 2021, with multi-year Clean Water Act projects beginning in 2022. Union Electric Company, doing business as Ameren Missouri, owns and operates the plant. Ameren Corporation is the parent holding company. The plant is interconnected to MISO at the 345 kV substation and operates within the MISO balancing authority.
