Minnkota Power Cooperative - Oliver County - MISO

Milton R. Young Station is a two-unit, conventional-steam-coal (lignite) power plant with 734 MW of nameplate capacity in Oliver County, North Dakota. Unit 1 (257 MW, online since October 1970) is owned and operated by Minnkota Power Cooperative, while Unit 2 (477 MW, online since April 1977) is owned by Square Butte Electric Cooperative and operated by Minnkota as its agent. The plant burns lignite trucked in from the adjacent Center Mine, which is operated by BNI Coal. It sells into MISO, settling near the OTP.CENTER1 pricing node about 1.6 km from the site. Minnkota has said that if federal power-plant emissions rules force it to abandon Project Tundra, the station could face early retirement, but no dated closure has been announced and the plant continues to operate.
