NRG Energy, Inc. - Queens County - NYISO

Ravenswood Generating Station is a 2,050 MW fossil-fueled power plant in Long Island City, Queens, owned by Rise Light & Power (a wholly owned affiliate of LS Power acquired by NRG Energy on January 30, 2026). The station comprises three steam-turbine generator units (Units 10, 20, and 30) totaling approximately 1,800 MW dating from 1963–1965, plus one 2004 combined-cycle natural-gas unit (Unit 40) rated approximately 250 MW. The 17 simple-cycle peaking units were permanently retired by 2024. All units are dual-fuel capable, primarily using natural gas with #2 fuel oil backup capability. The facility is interconnected to NYISO transmission through the 345 kV Rainey Substation (Unit 30) and 138 kV Vernon Substation (Units 10, 20, and 40). Ravenswood provides more than 20% of New York City's local generation capacity and serves as a critical dispatchable resource for grid reliability. Rise Light & Power has proposed the Renewable Ravenswood vision, which includes offshore-wind repowering, upstate renewable interconnections, energy storage, and clean thermal-energy initiatives to transition the site away from fossil generation.
