Sterling Power Partners LP - Oneida County - NYISO

Sterling Power Plant (EIA 50744) is a 65.3 MW independent power producer located at 110 East Seneca Street in Sherrill, Oneida County, New York. The facility comprises a natural-gas-fired combined-cycle cogeneration block with a 47.7 MW GE Frame 6 combustion turbine, a 16.5 MW steam turbine, and a 1.1 MW distillate-fuel auxiliary generator. The combustion-turbine and petroleum-liquid units began operating in June 1991, with the steam unit following in July 1991. The plant was historically described by its operator as originally built in 1992 and acquired by Alliance Energy in 2005. All three generating units were listed as operating in the latest EIA-derived record. The facility operates as a cogeneration facility providing electricity to the grid and potentially steam to a host facility, though it is classified as an independent power producer without combined heat and power. Sterling interconnects to Niagara Mohawk Power Corp.'s 115 kV transmission system at the Oneida Substation through a dedicated 2.5-mile radial tie line. In October 2021, Sterling announced an intention to retire its 65 MW unit effective on or before May 2, 2022, citing sustained uneconomic conditions and regulatory uncertainty, subject to NYISO reliability review. In January 2026, PowerTransitions LegacyOps II entered into an agreement to acquire Sterling Power Partners LP and four other Alliance-affiliated generation entities representing 323 MW of combined capacity.
