The Dalles Dam is a conventional hydroelectric facility with roughly 1,206 MW of nameplate capacity spread across 15 operating generating units in Wasco County, Oregon. The dam is a concrete-gravity, run-of-river structure on the Columbia River that joins Wasco County, Oregon, with Klickitat County, Washington, about 192 miles upriver from the river's mouth. It is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, with the power it generates marketed wholesale by the Bonneville Power Administration. Because it is a federally owned dam, the project is operated by the Corps rather than licensed by FERC, so it has no FERC license expiration date the way private hydro projects do. All units remain in service and EIA-860 shows no scheduled whole-plant or unit retirements. The dam's reservoir, formed when the project was completed in 1957, submerged Celilo Falls, a site of major cultural and economic importance to Columbia River tribes.
