Wisconsin Electric Power Company - Milwaukee County - MISO

Valley Power Plant is a two-unit natural gas steam turbine facility with 272 MW of nameplate capacity in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. It is owned and operated by We Energies (Wisconsin Electric Power Co), which built the plant along the Menomonee River, with Unit 1 entering service in 1968 and Unit 2 in 1969. The plant is a cogeneration station: besides supplying power, it provides steam to roughly 480 downtown Milwaukee customers, including hospitals, universities and commercial buildings. It originally burned pulverized coal and petroleum coke, but We Energies converted both units to natural gas, completing the switch in late 2015. EIA-860 shows both generators still operating with no planned retirement date on file, and the plant continues to run in an intermediate-load role providing electric output and voltage support for downtown Milwaukee. It sells into the MISO market, settling near We Energies' Oak Creek-area price nodes.
