Venice Energy Center is a natural gas peaking plant in Venice, Madison County, Illinois, owned by Ameren Missouri (formerly AmerenUE) on the site of the Venice Power Plant, which began operation in 1942. Three simple-cycle Siemens Westinghouse combustion turbines, two of 212 MW and one of 135 MW, were installed with McCarthy Construction as general contractor to replace older oil- and gas-fired steam units, with commercial operation beginning in 2005.
