Usage Policy

Last updated October 30, 2026

Ask the Grid helps people understand the power grid: how it is running now, how it has behaved, and what is likely next. This policy says what that includes, what it does not, and what happens when someone crosses the line. It is part of our Terms of Service and applies to every way of using the service: the website, the grid agent, the API, the MCP server, and Ask the Grid Data.

What the service is for

Reliability, outages, planning, siting, interconnection, resilience, security, markets, trading, and research. Asking hard questions about the grid is the point, including which assets matter most, what happens when one fails, and where the system is under strain. You do not need permission for any of that.

People and the grid

Do not use the service to harm people, or to damage, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to energy infrastructure or the systems that operate it. Do not use it to manipulate a market.

Nonpublic information

The public service is built from public sources. Organizations that need to work with Critical Energy/Electric Infrastructure Information (CEII) or other nonpublic data, in Ask the Grid or Ask the Grid Data, do so under a signed agreement that sets how the information is stored, who can see it, and which providers may process it. That agreement governs how the information is handled.

Outside such an agreement, do not upload, paste, or connect CEII, classified or Controlled Unclassified Information, or other information you are not authorized to share with us and our sub-processors. If you are authorized to see nonpublic information in the service, do not share it beyond the people your agreement allows.

The service itself

Keep the service working for everyone:

  • stay within your plan's allowances, and do not get around limits or access controls, including by opening extra accounts;
  • keep your account, credentials, and API keys to yourself;
  • use our API, MCP server, or data delivery interfaces for automated access and bulk downloads, within your plan and agreement, rather than scraping or crawling the website;
  • do not take data out in bulk to build a competing product or train AI models, and do not resell access without our permission;
  • do not disrupt, overload, or attempt unauthorized access to the service, or reverse engineer it (security research is welcome; see below);
  • do not try to extract the agent's instructions or tools, or work around its safeguards.

We may slow, queue, or limit usage that we reasonably consider excessive.

Security research

We welcome good-faith security research. Test only against your own account and data, do not degrade the service or reach other people’s information, and report what you find to legal@parisi-labs.com. Research done that way is not a violation of this policy.

The law

Use the service lawfully. Do not use it to infringe anyone’s rights, from an embargoed country, as a restricted party, or in any other way that violates U.S. export control or sanctions law.

Decisions that depend on it

The service informs decisions; it does not make them. Do not use it as a safety component in operating infrastructure, or for automated bidding or dispatch, without a signed agreement with us that covers that use.

Approved uses

Some things this policy restricts, such as access to CEII and other nonpublic data, and automated bidding or dispatch, have legitimate uses with the right controls. We approve them for a specific organization under a signed agreement that sets the conditions, and an approval covers only that organization, that use, and those conditions. Contact us to ask.

Enforcement

We use automated systems and human review to detect possible violations. The grid agent may decline a request. Where we reasonably believe there is a violation of this policy, a security risk, a legal requirement, or a risk to people or infrastructure, we may warn you, pause the agent on your account, or limit, suspend, or end access to all or part of the service. An automatic pause is temporary and a person reviews it; a lasting restriction follows that review. The Terms of Service set out our broader rights to suspend or end access. Where we believe there is a risk to people or infrastructure, we may preserve information and share it as our Privacy Policy describes for legal and safety purposes.

Mistakes and reports

If a request was declined, the agent was paused on your account, or your access was limited, and you think we got it wrong, contact support from the Help panel. A person will review it and restore access where it was a mistake. If you see the service misused, or find a safety or security problem, tell us the same way or email legal@parisi-labs.com.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
