The Athens Generating Plant is an operating natural-gas-fired combined-cycle facility located at 9300 US Route 9W in the Town of Athens, Greene County, New York. The facility consists of three combined-cycle units, each powered by a Westinghouse 501G combustion turbine paired with a heat-recovery steam generator and steam turbine generator. Construction began in May 2001 and was completed in mid-July 2003, with commercial service commencing in 2004. The facility is owned and operated by New Athens Generating Company LLC and is subject to lightened regulation by the New York Public Service Commission.
