Empire Generating Co LLC is a 635 MW natural-gas-fired combined-cycle power plant located at 75 Riverside Avenue in Rensselaer, New York. The facility entered commercial operation on August 31, 2010, and comprises two GE 7FA combustion turbines, two Alstom triple-pressure heat-recovery steam generators, and one GE D-11 reheat steam turbine configured in a 2x1 combined-cycle arrangement. Low-sulfur fuel oil is available as backup fuel. The plant interconnects to the NYISO transmission system at the Reynolds Road 345 kV Substation and sells merchant energy, capacity, and ancillary services into the NYISO competitive wholesale markets. Following a bankruptcy restructuring in 2019, the facility is currently owned by a consortium comprising ITOCHU Corporation (50%), The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (25%), and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (25%), with asset management by Tyr Energy and operations and maintenance provided by NAES Corporation.
