Large load · 8450 N TERRYL B ADAMS ST, Las Vegas, NV
Air Liquide's largest liquid hydrogen production and logistics facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada, was officially opened in May 2022 as a $250 million investment in the U.S. hydrogen market. The plant is designed to produce 30 tonnes of liquid hydrogen per day, with output aimed at clean mobility customers on the West Coast, especially in California. The company states the facility is powered by fully renewable electricity. Hydrogen Fuel News reported in August 2025 that Air Liquide had just fired up the plant.
Overview
Air Liquide officially opened the North Las Vegas facility in May 2022, describing it as its largest liquid hydrogen production and logistics infrastructure facility. The project is a $250 million investment by Air Liquide in the United States hydrogen market. The company said the investment created jobs for 700 contractors during construction and 25 full-time jobs with the plant at full capacity. Air Liquide also said the associated logistics infrastructure was built to attract other companies to the area, with new revenue for the city of North Las Vegas and the state of Nevada. Energy Tech and ESG News carried the opening as an industrial gases project in the same terms.
Profile
- Power supply and fuel inputs
- Air Liquide's release states that the facility will be powered by fully renewable electricity. The facility can also use renewable natural gas to meet the California Low Carbon Fuel Standard when supplying the California mobility market, and the plant configuration allows the sale of hydrogen to a wide range of sectors with renewable and low-carbon options. Powder Bulk Solids and ESG News reprinted the same description of the plant's renewable power basis. The release also says the plant will allow the sale of hydrogen to a wide array of sectors, not only mobility, with renewable and low-carbon options for customers.
- Customers and clean mobility market
- The facility is designed to supply hydrogen to customers in the clean mobility market, notably on the West Coast and in California. Air Liquide says the plant can provide enough renewable hydrogen for over 40,000 fuel cell vehicles in California. The company describes the facility as part of its goal of at least tripling hydrogen sales to 6 billion euros by 2035. Air Liquide's Chairman and CEO for the American business said the plant reflects a commitment to clean markets on the West Coast. Coverage in Energy Tech and Powder Bulk Solids repeats the 30-tonne-per-day capacity and the 40,000-vehicle estimate as the company's own figures.
