Analog Devices has had a presence in Wilmington, Massachusetts, since 1981. The campus covers more than 40 acres and includes seven buildings with about 1,800 employees, according to the town's economic development materials. The Wilmington fab makes RF, linear and other analog products and took over production of ADI's MEMS products after a 2009 upgrade. In January 2025 the Department of Commerce proposed up to $105 million under the CHIPS and Science Act for ADI's Massachusetts operations, to expand module production at a packaging and test facility. ADI's global headquarters also moved to Wilmington in 2018.
Overview
Analog Devices has been a presence in Wilmington since 1981. Its campus is more than 40 acres with seven buildings, and the town says the company has about 1,800 employees in Wilmington alone. Wilmington's town manager called the company a tremendous corporate partner, and the company opened its global headquarters in town in 2018.
Profile
- 2009 wafer fab upgrades
- ADI completed operational improvements to its wafer fabs in Wilmington, Massachusetts, and Limerick, Ireland, in 2009. The Wilmington plant makes RF, linear and other analog products, and it took on production of ADI's MEMS products after the upgrades were finished on November 1, 2009. The company described the work as a way to lower cost and improve wafer fabrication efficiency, using proprietary analog, mixed-signal and MEMS process technologies. The upgrades were part of a multi-year plan to give customers flexible global manufacturing capacity.
- 2025 federal investment
- In January 2025 Congressman Seth Moulton announced that Analog Devices is slated to receive up to $105 million from the Department of Commerce under the CHIPS and Science Act. The investment supports ADI projects in Massachusetts and the Pacific Northwest. In Massachusetts it would increase module production output at the company's packaging and test facility, expanding capacity for commercial, space and defense applications, and it would support new commercial phased array antenna and sensor solutions. ADI's CEO said the investment will help the company strengthen workforce training and community partnerships.
