CC Metals and Alloys, LLC makes ferrosilicon and magnesium ferrosilicon alloys at its Calvert City, Kentucky plant, which has operated since 1949 under earlier names. The plant was suspended in 2020, reopened in March 2021 under a union labor agreement, and in March 2026 was reported to have halted production. Its ownership has passed through several groups, most recently Georgian American Alloys.
Overview
Georgian American Alloys, Inc. acquired the membership interests of CC Metals and Alloys from affiliated Optima Group LLC in exchange for GAA shares, according to an AIST notice of the transaction. In 2021 a regional report described the company as a mining and metals business partially owned by American businessmen Mordechai Korf and Uriel Laber. A 2017 Fastmarkets report said American Alloy Acquisition, an affiliate of Russian ferro-alloy producer Chemk Industrial Group, had agreed to acquire the producer from Georgian American Alloys, with CC Metals to operate as an independent subsidiary afterward.
Profile
- 2020 suspension and 2021 reopening
- On July 1, 2020, CC Metals and Alloys announced an indefinite suspension of business operations at its Calvert City ferrosilicon production facility because of poor market and pricing conditions linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. The shutdown laid off more than eighty plant workers, about 77% of the company's workforce. The facility reopened in March 2021, and on September 2, 2021, more than 90% of UAW Local 523 members voted to approve a labor agreement with increased wages and additional benefits covering over 100 jobs.
- 2026 layoffs and production halt
- A Paducah Sun report published March 24, 2026 says CC Metals and Alloys, a metal supplier plant in Calvert City, will lay off more than 100 employees on March 24, with the furnace department taking the largest share, about 35 workers. The headline attributes the layoffs to a production halt caused by low demand and market pressures. The report says the company has been part of the community since 1949, was originally called Pittsburgh Metallurgical, and has manufactured specialty ferrosilicon and magnesium ferrosilicon products.
