Chevron Pascagoula Refinery
Large load · 250 INDUSTRIAL ROAD GATE 15, Pascagoula, MS
Chevron's Pascagoula Refinery is a petroleum refinery on the Mississippi Gulf Coast at 250 Industrial Road, east of Pascagoula. A March 2026 state permit determination describes a refinery that can currently process 361,000 barrels per operating day of crude oil and a planned increase to 394,000. Local news reported in September 2026 that the coker has more than doubled its output since January, with the plant processing up to 100,000 barrels of crude oil a day, including growing volumes of Venezuelan crude. The refinery was commissioned in 1963 and has been expanded since.
Overview
The Pascagoula Refinery sits in the John C. Stennis–Bayou Casotte Industrial Park. Mississippi's Department of Environmental Quality final determination, dated March 12, 2026, describes 20 major refining process units, about 200 storage vessels and four marine terminals on roughly 1,000 of the 3,000 acres Chevron owns. The refinery can currently process 361,000 barrels per operating day of crude oil, which yields about 5.5 million gallons of motor gasoline per day. The same document describes an increase to 394,000 barrels per operating day through upgrades to the Crude I and Crude II units and the Hydrofiner.
Profile
- Venezuelan crude and coker growth in 2026
- WLOX reported on September 16, 2026 that Chevron is expanding its access to Venezuelan crude oil, and more of that oil will make its way to the Pascagoula refinery as a result. The refinery has processed Venezuelan crude for decades, but 2026 brought significant growth. Since January, coker production has more than doubled. Marissa Badenhorst, who took over as refinery director in May, said the plant has done up to 100,000 barrels a day and could do more. She is the first female director of the Pascagoula refinery.
- Ownership and expansion history
- A 2014 project profile of the refinery says it was commissioned in 1963 with an initial capacity of 100,000 barrels per day and that it is owned by Chevron USA and operated by the company's global refining division. The profile says the plant runs around the clock and employs about 1,500 people. In February 2011, Chevron approved a $1.4 billion project to expand the refinery to produce base oil lubricants, adding a lubes hydrocracker and a lube oil unit. The state permit identifies Chevron USA Inc. and Chevron Products Company as the owner and operator.
