Profile
- Feedstock and continuous processing
- Substantially all of the New Carlisle plant's feedstock comes from Cleveland-Cliffs facilities in Indiana Harbor and Burns Harbor, delivered by daily unit trains. The plant welds coils end to end so that each one runs continuously through pickling, tandem rolling, annealing, temper rolling and inspection in less than a day. The company says the same five processes take 12 days or more through traditional batch methods. The company ties that continuous flow to the sheet quality it claims for the plant.
- Ownership history
- ArcelorMittal owned I/N Tek and I/N Kote in partnership with Nippon Steel before the 2020 transaction. Cleveland-Cliffs said it acquired Nippon Steel's 50 percent stake in I/N Kote and its 40 percent stake in I/N Tek for approximately US$183 million, and it reported full ownership of both plants after it completed its purchase of ArcelorMittal USA. The Association for Iron and Steel Technology reported that ArcelorMittal had owned both plants in partnership with Nippon Steel Corp.
