Profile

Washington plant closures: In January 2024 WestRock announced that its Seattle packaging plant would close, with about 87 employees losing their jobs in March. Local reporting noted that about 400 workers were laid off from the WestRock Paper Mill in Tacoma the year before, months before that closure. The Seattle closure came months after the Tacoma paper mill closed, which the same report describes as nearly a century old. The report is dated January 25, 2024.

Packaging investment: WestRock says it is developing a new corrugated box facility in Washington, US, to meet the increasing demand for its products. The Longview mill is also a kraft pulp and paper mill and box plant, and Ecology measures its output at about 2,800 tons of unbleached pulp and 3,600 tons of paper and corrugated products each day. The Washington box facility described in that announcement is a separate WestRock project from the Longview mill.
