Yesterday's called day-ahead price premium missed on level, timing, and shape: real-time peaks ranged far wider than the cleared curve implied and landed anywhere from the prior evening to this morning, extending a run of level misses in four of the last seven graded sessions and timing misses in five of seven.
- Since the prior issue, today's forecast load peak ticked up again, and the forecast capacity-less-load-and-ancillary-service calculation turns negative for tonight's later hours, the weakest reading in its own recent history.
- The cleared day-ahead curve and Ask the Grid's MetisCast model still disagree on level, with MetisCast pricing below the curve for a sixth straight session.
- The evening call holds if the cross-location median real-time-to-day-ahead spread stays inside its calibrated band and realized load tracks within the forecast's recent error tolerance; either break invalidates it before tonight's peak.

Evening decision window opens negative on margin, split on price#
Today's decision window runs Aug 26, 4 PM CDT to 11 PM CDT. Three things define it: the load-capacity setup, the market-model split, and the standing forecast-to-realized gap. First, the forecast gross-load peak rose 101 MW since yesterday's issue to 90,645 MW at 5 PM CDT, pushing the forecast capacity-less-load-and-ancillary-service calculation to -5,373 MW at 9 PM CDT, the weakest reading against its own trailing distribution.
Second, the cleared day-ahead curve and MetisCast's P50 path still disagree on level, with MetisCast pricing $20.1/MWh below the curve. Third, yesterday's called price premium missed on level, timing, and shape. Watch the cross-location RT-DA spread, realized load against the forecast, and West Hub's day-ahead peak of $158.93/MWh at 8 PM CDT.
| Window | System transition | ERCOT Hub Average day-ahead | Market posture |

| 8 AM-5 PM | Solar holds near its 30,998 MW high at 1 PM while gross load rises toward the afternoon peak. | $25/MWh to $57.2/MWh | Lowest-priced remaining window. Preserve flexibility for the evening. |
| 5 PM-8 PM | Gross load tops out at 90,645 MW and solar begins to fall, so net load accelerates. | $57.2/MWh to $143.4/MWh | Ramp begins. Watch load and renewable output against the forecast. |
| 8 PM-11 PM | Net load climbs 8,603 MW in the hour to 8 PM, peaks at 74,538 MW at 9 PM, and the cleared curve reaches its high. | $99.7/MWh to $143.7/MWh | Primary decision window. The curve priced above real time in 3 of the last 7 graded sessions; this is where tonight either breaks that run or extends it. |
| 11 PM-12 AM | The cleared curve prices net load and prices normalizing off the peak. | $60.8/MWh to $99.7/MWh | These hours are priced but sit outside the decision window. Confirm the rollover in real time before resetting. |

Day-ahead curve misses level, timing and shape again#
Yesterday's cleared day-ahead awards implied a synchronized evening run-up, with selected hub peaks from $84.5/MWh at South Hub to $110.4/MWh at North Hub clustered near Aug 25, 8-9 PM CDT. Real time did not confirm that shape: realized peaks ranged from $58.4/MWh at South Hub, Aug 26, 5 AM CDT, to $144.5/MWh at West Hub, Aug 26, 7 AM CDT, with Houston's $73.5/MWh peak landing as early as Aug 25, 5 PM CDT.
This extends a run: the cleared curve's price level has missed in four of the last seven graded sessions, the last four in a row, and the realized peak has landed outside the called hour in five of seven, with real time settling entirely below the day-ahead range in three of those seven.
MetisCast keeps its own lean under that curve, per the model-versus-market divergence already on this board: its P50 path prices below the cleared award across the 17 shared hours, peaking well ahead of the curve's evening high. That lean is a standing bias built from the model's history, not tonight's verified level; the model's own peak call has held in only one of three graded sessions.
Texas carried a record hourly demand print of 90,614 MWh at 5 PM CDT on Aug 24, and separate coverage notes ERCOT prices holding comparatively steady despite that load pressure. Neither explains why last night's peak scattered across roughly twelve hours hub to hub instead of clustering as called. Whether tonight repeats or breaks that pattern rests on the calibrated RT-DA error band already framing this issue's evening call: inside it, the shape problem stays a timing quirk; outside it, today's price relationship needs a fresh read. MetisCast ERCOT Hub Average probabilistic price forecast#
MetisCast prices ERCOT Hub Average -$20.1/MWh against the cleared day-ahead curve across 17 joined hours. Its P50 tops out at $67.1/MWh at Aug 26, 6 PM CDT while the market cleared $143.7/MWh at Aug 26, 10 PM CDT. The two agree on when the evening matters and disagree on what it pays.
West Hub's 7 AM spike outpaces North and South hubs#
Real time diverged sharply across the footprint this morning. West Hub's hour-ending 7 AM CDT print reached $144.52/MWh, the session's outright hub-level high and the top of its same-hour recent range. North Hub printed $88.78/MWh at that same hour, elevated but well below West. South Hub's peak came three hours earlier, $45.67/MWh at 5 AM CDT, confirming the morning pressure did not move uniformly.
Underneath those levels, the real-time-to-day-ahead convergence spread flipped sign at three of four hubs since the prior issue. North Hub's mean spread collapsed to $0.63/MWh from $10.76/MWh, its local residual reversing from +$8.24/MWh to -$1.04/MWh. Houston moved the other way, from a -$3.50/MWh mean discount to a $2.70/MWh premium, residual swinging from -$6.02/MWh to +$1.03/MWh. South's mean spread also flipped, -$3.25/MWh to $0.60/MWh, residual -$5.77/MWh to -$1.07/MWh. The systemwide common component itself eased to $1.67/MWh from $2.52/MWh, and none of the four local residuals has broken its own historical band, so this is a coordinated systemwide easing, not a hub separating from the system.
For West Hub exposure, the cleared day-ahead award of $158.93/MWh at 8 PM CDT is the level tonight's real time either confirms or breaks; a sustained gap there is the first place a spatial dislocation would show up.

Today's load forecast closes in on ERCOT's standing demand record#
Realized system demand peaked at 89,744 MW at 6 PM CDT on Aug 25, three hours after committed capacity peaked at 112,196 MW at 4 PM CDT. That headroom read is a raw same-hour comparison, separate from tonight's forecast margin.
Reliability unit commitment rose to 3,209 MW for the 10 PM CDT hour on Aug 25, emptied to zero between 2 AM and 4 AM CDT, then rebuilt to 1,790 MW by 7 AM CDT. ERCOT deployed 1,929 MW of Non-Spin at 6:50 AM CDT and recalled it by 7:40 AM CDT, an overnight reliability action, not a scarcity signal. Wind and solar forecast output peak in the overnight and midday windows respectively, each fading before tonight's ramp begins. Forecast outage capacity sits in the middle of its recent same-hour range, arguing against elevated forced-outage risk tonight.
FactSet's Aug 25 review found ERCOT prices stayed steady even as Texas load reached record levels this month, and ERCOT's own accounting puts the standing peak-demand record at 91,089 MW, set July 22, 2026. Today's forecast peak sits close enough to that mark to test whether the steady-price pattern holds again tonight. West Hub's day-ahead ceiling is tonight's real test#
West Hub is the location to watch through tonight's decision window: the cleared curve's West Hub day-ahead award peaks at $158.9/MWh at 8 PM CDT, and real time will either confirm that level or break below it. West Hub's own RT-DA residual, after removing the common convergence component, sits inside its calibrated band, so today's $2.7/MWh raw spread is not yet a standalone West dislocation. North, South, and Houston also hold inside their own bands; none currently separates from the system.
Open the West Hub real-time-versus-day-ahead panel and the hub comparison chart to track this live. If real time still runs above the cleared curve after 11 PM CDT, tonight's exposure carries past the decision window, and the rollover needs confirming before resetting into tomorrow's session.

| RT-DA convergence spread | Real-time minus day-ahead price at the same settlement point, averaged over joined hours. Temporal, not locational: it is not basis. |
| Common component | The RT-DA spread shared across all selected locations, taken from the hub-average location where one exists and otherwise the cross-location mean. |
| Local residual | A location's RT-DA spread minus the common component. This, not the raw spread, is what a regional claim has to clear. |
| Pre-storage net load | Gross load forecast minus wind and solar forecast, over the hours where both renewable forecasts are published. Storage charge/discharge and net interchange are not included, which is why the narrower name is used. |
| Resource outage capacity in effect | Capacity carried by the outage records in force at the issue cutoff, as published in the operator's hourly outage curve. This is not the market's full forced-plus-unplanned outage total, and the two should not be compared across issues. |
| MetisCast P50 versus cleared day-ahead | Model median minus the cleared day-ahead award for the same hour. The day-ahead leg is a market outcome, not an Ask the Grid forecast. The stated P10-P90 width is an arithmetic mean across the frozen horizon unless labeled otherwise. |

Forecast-vintage policy. Every input in this issue was published at or before the knowledge cutoff. Forecast series are the latest vintage available at that instant and are never revised after the fact; realized history used for percentiles is guarded by the same cutoff. The preceding issue's frozen vintage is stored with the issue, so a revision is measured against what was actually published, not against a later correction. Not covered by this issue's data: Residual dispatchable demand; Reserve, PRC and contingency coverage; Weather-to-market translation. Each limitation is stated where it applies rather than filled in by inference.
