Air Products Wilmington Hydrogen Plant
Large load · 700 HENRY FORD AVENUE, Wilmington, CA
The Air Products Wilmington Hydrogen Plant in Wilmington, California produces gaseous hydrogen by steam methane reforming from feedstock supplied by the adjacent refinery. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is the transmission or distribution system owner. Air Products owns a shared generation facility with a nameplate rating of 31,900 kW that both Air Products and the refinery consume.
Overview
Gaseous hydrogen is produced by reacting steam with hydrocarbon feed stock supplied by the refinery, through reforming in the steam methane reformer, shift conversion, and hydrogen purification. The plant had a total design capacity of 80 million standard cubic feet per day of gaseous hydrogen in a 2002 permit record. A January 2019 announcement described a newly commissioned expansion doubling the size of the Wilmington hydrogen transfill system.
