Overview
The site produces sulfuric acid by combusting elemental sulfur and by regenerating spent sulfuric acid received from petroleum refining and chemical processes, through two process units, PRO-UNIT8 and PRO-REGEN2. Eco Services applied to TCEQ to renew Air Quality Permit 19282 for continued operation of the plant.
Profile
- Electricity and grid
- ERCOT's capacity, demand and reserves report lists RHODIA HOUSTON PLANT, unit DG_HG_2UNITS, in Harris County in the Houston zone, as gas-fired with 8.20 MW. EPA's registry links the site to an EIA-860 electric generator at the Houston Plant. In 2023 both of the plant's turbine generators had mechanical faults, and the plant ran the smaller one with components from the larger.
- Permits and water
- TCEQ prepared a draft statement of basis for federal operating permit O3049 renewal on October 22, 2026, and has a commercial hazardous waste permit 50095 renewal application received March 8, 2022. Reusing turbine-generator condensate saved more than 5.8 million gallons of water in acid production.
