Overview

A mercury cell chlor-alkali technology was discontinued in 2009, and the facility also produces hydrochloric acid.
Profile
- Electricity and grid
- In 2007 a company executive said ERCO spent $1 million a month on electricity from Wisconsin Power & Light. In 2007 the plant manager said the company was paying $49 per megawatt of power while Alliant offered $53 per megawatt hour. A 2006 proposal would have allowed Alliant to cut the plant's power supply during peak-use periods.
- Ownership
- ERCO agreed to purchase the equipment and facilities, while ownership of the land was retained by BCC and leased to ERCO. Superior Plus sold its specialty chemical business to Birch Hill Equity Partners effective April 9, 2021.
- Permits and recent changes
- In September 2026 the Wisconsin DNR preliminarily determined to renew the long-term care license for 10 years. ERCO has begun construction of additional railcar storage tracks.
