Microchip Technology Gresham Fab 4
Large load · 21015 SOUTHEAST STARK STREET, Gresham, OR
Microchip Technology Gresham Fab 4 is a semiconductor wafer fab at 21015 SE Stark Street in Gresham, Multnomah County, Oregon, owned and operated by Microchip Technology Incorporated. Microchip has pursued an expansion of the site, with Oregon CHIPS support, and its energy management program reported 2.1 million kWh of verified electricity savings in 2025, roughly 1.2% of the site's total baseload.
Overview
Oregon DEQ says Microchip Technology Incorporated owns and operates an existing semiconductor manufacturing facility at 21015 SE Stark Street, referred to as Microchip Gresham Fab 4. Both cleanroom expansions are complete and in service, along with nitrogen plant, ultra pure water plant and solvent exhaust expansions, and about two-thirds of project tools are in service or being installed.
Profile
- Electricity and grid
- Microchip's Gresham manufacturing site delivered more than 2.1 million kWh in verified electricity savings in 2025, roughly 1.2% of the site's total baseload. A sitewide LED retrofit is expected to reduce electricity usage by approximately 2.2 million kWh per year. A contractor's case study describes a scheduled shutdown to replace switchgear installed in the 1990s, during which the fab ran on rented generators of four 1 megawatt units and three 2 megawatt units each at half capacity; this was temporary and is not site demand. DEQ notes emergency generators among the facility's support buildings.
- Recent changes and investment
- Oregon's CHIPS report says Microchip's expansion did not materially progress in 2025 despite layoffs in March 2025, and that much of 2025 went to transferring processes and tooling from the idle Tempe, Arizona facility. Microchip received an $11 million Oregon CHIPS award for the Fab 4 expansion to triple production.
