Overview

The plant's New York air permit covers copper annealing, furnaces to melt and pour copper and copper alloy, and the rolling of copper and copper alloy sheets. A replacement casting furnace holds 65,000 pounds of molten metal, compared with 110,000 pounds for the old furnace.

Electricity and grid: Revere says its most intensive electricity usage is casting recycled copper scrap, and that if the grid is down or it has to curtail electricity it cannot cast and will lose finished product. The New York Power Authority's ReCharge New York approved-allocations schedule through July 28, 2026 lists Revere Copper Products, Inc. of Rome, Mohawk Valley, at 6,600 in its kilowatt allocation column. A 2023 air-permit application lists emergency generators including a 2000 kW diesel unit at the Soap House and a 250 kW natural gas unit at the coreless furnace.

Permits: New York DEC issued Air State Facility permit 6-3013-00091/00039, effective 02/23/2024 through 02/22/2034. A 2023 DEC notice describes SPDES discharges to the Mohawk River and the Barge Canal.
