StarPlus Energy Kokomo is a lithium-ion battery manufacturing campus in Howard County, Indiana, owned by a Stellantis and Samsung SDI joint venture. An energy storage production line began mass production in October 2026. Duke Energy Indiana built a 230/69/34.5 kV substation for the plant.

Overview

The LFP energy storage production line began mass production in early October 2026 and is operating normally. Samsung SDI cells and modules for Samsung Battery Box are made at the Kokomo plant. Plant 1 has announced capacity of 33 GWh and Plant 2 of 34 GWh.

Profile

Electricity and grid: Duke Energy Indiana is building the Kokomo Industrial Substation at 230/69/34.5 kV to support the EV battery plant site. The StarPlus project will provide more than 230 MW of transmission capacity, serving the EV battery plant and future Kokomo-area customers. Duke Energy Indiana is a transmission owner and market participant in MISO.

Ownership and permits: Stellantis and Samsung SDI established StarPlus Energy as a joint venture. The plant operates under IDEM Part 70 operating permit T067-45648-00093 and total investment for both facilities is over $6.3 billion.
