Texas Instruments Richardson (RFAB1 and RFAB2)
Large load · 300 W. RENNER ROAD, Richardson, TX
Texas Instruments' Richardson campus, a few miles north of its Dallas headquarters, houses RFAB1, which opened in 2009 as the world's first 300mm analog wafer fab, and RFAB2, a larger connected fab that began production in 2022. At full build-out the two fabs are meant to make more than 100 million analog chips a day. TI has committed to power its 300mm fabs entirely with renewable electricity, backed by long-term wind and solar PPAs in North Texas.
Overview
RFAB1 opened in 2009. RFAB2, connected to RFAB1, started initial production in September 2022 and is one of six 300mm fabs TI is adding. It is more than 30% larger than RFAB1, with more than 630,000 square feet of clean room across the two fabs.
Profile
- Scale at full production
- Once fully built out, 15 miles of automated overhead delivery systems will move wafers between the two fabs, and the Richardson fabs will manufacture more than 100 million analog chips every day.
- Renewable power purchases
- In March 2024 TI set targets of 100% renewable electricity in its 300mm manufacturing by 2025, in U.S. operations by 2027 and worldwide by 2030, and said it had started receiving more than 65 MW from long-term PPAs in North Texas wind and solar projects.
- Part of TI's $60 billion U.S. buildout
- In June 2025 TI announced plans to invest more than $60 billion across seven U.S. fabs, including continued expansion at Richardson with RFAB2 alongside the Sherman and Lehi sites.
