Profile
- Electricity and grid
- AEP Texas owns and operates transmission facilities within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas region. AEP Texas proposed a transmission line from its Champlin Substation to its Valero East Substation on the Valero Refinery property. A Texas PUC filing describes expanding the existing Valero East 69-kV substation to add a new box bay and a 200MVA, 138/69kV auto transformer. ERCOT's 2019 review of the Nueces 69 kV system noted that contingencies could result in consequential loss of the large industrial loads (~150 MW). FERC's EIA cross-reference lists Corpus Christi West generators TG1 and TG2 at 28.6 MW and PRU at 12 MW, and East generators GEN1 and GEN2 at 20 MW.
- Ownership and permits
- EPA's registry lists Valero Refining-Texas, L.P. as the operator, with Valero Energy Corporation as parent company. The West plant holds Federal Operating Permit O1458, issued January 30, 2019. TCEQ is considering a permit to continue operation of the Valero Corpus Christi Refinery East Plant, including storage tanks, heaters and refinery fugitives.
