Profile
- Electricity and grid
- Power produced at the Hawks Nest Project remains dedicated to the alloy plant owned by WVA Manufacturing, LLC. The Hawks Nest Project has an installed capacity of 102 MW and generates approximately 544,253 MWh per year, delivered over two parallel 69-kilovolt lines to the Alloy Substation, which is also an interconnection point for the regional grid. The 25-Hz system is tied to the regional 60-Hz system, operated by Appalachian Power Company, by frequency converters at the Alloy Substation. The projects are located in the PJM region.
- Power contract
- Brookfield Power agreed to acquire the two hydroelectric plants and sell power to West Virginia Alloy for its integrated ferroalloy smelter under a 15-year contract. Hawks Nest generates an average of 534,100 MWh annually, provided solely to the plant under a PPA that expires on June 30, 2026.
