The facility entered commercial operation on June 19, 2002, and comprises one generator with two Pratt & Whitney FT8 turbines serving a single generator. The facility was developed to relieve the Far Rockaway load pocket, a transmission-constrained area on Long Island. Following a 2019 acquisition by Hull Street Energy (through MPH Rockaway Peakers, LLC), the facility remains in operation under proposed 10-year capacity purchase arrangements with LIPA.
