Benton County Wind Farm
Benton County Wind Farm is an 87-turbine onshore wind project near Earl Park in northern Benton County, Indiana, built with 1.5 MW GE turbines for a combined nameplate capacity of 130.5 MW. It began commercial operation in 2008 as Indiana's first utility-scale wind farm, and its output settles into the MISO market. The project is owned by Benton County Wind Farm LLC, an entity backed by subsidiaries of Orion Energy Group and other investors, with Orion Energy Group managing day-to-day operations. In 2018 the wind farm's ownership sued Duke Energy Indiana in federal court, alleging the utility had breached that contract by curtailing the farm's dispatch into MISO and cutting its revenue. EIA-860 shows all generating capacity still in operating status with no scheduled retirement.
