BigBeau Solar is a utility-scale solar photovoltaic and battery energy-storage hybrid facility located in Kern County, California. The project comprises 128 MWac of solar generation (164 MWdc array capacity) with more than 443,000 bifacial Canadian Solar panels on single-axis ATI trackers, plus a 40 MW / 160 MWh battery energy-storage system using lithium-ion technology. The facility interconnects at 230 kV via the Whirlwind Substation and is co-owned by EDF power solutions North America and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company–Masdar. Solar generation began in February 2022; battery operation and full project operation commenced in December 2022. The project serves up to 64,000 homes and displaces over 315,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
