Fox Hills Battery Station
Consolidated Edison Co-NY Inc - Richmond County - NYISO
Fox Hills Battery Station is a 7.5 MW / 30 MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system located adjacent to the Fox Hills substation in the Rosebank neighborhood of Staten Island, New York (Richmond County). The facility comprises 11 ground-mounted Tesla Megapack 2.0 containers using LFP (lithium-iron phosphate) chemistry. Consolidated Edison owns and operates the system to provide substation load relief, grid flexibility services including load balancing and voltage support, reactive power support, power quality enhancement, hosting capacity for distributed solar, and peak shaving. The system also participates in NYISO wholesale electricity market services and supports local system ramp-up needs. The facility entered service on August 20, 2023. In December 2023, a cable incident between Tesla Megapack 7 and switchgear breaker 7 prompted an investigation and recommendation to replace all 350 MCM interconnecting cables with 500 MCM cables—a corrective upgrade completed in 2024.
