Jamaica Bay Peaking
Jamaica Bay Peaking is a 60.5 MW simple-cycle, dual-fuel (natural gas and petroleum liquids) combustion-turbine peaking plant located in Far Rockaway, Queens County, New York. It is interconnected to the 69 kV system in Long Island Power Authority's service territory at the Far Rockaway substation and participates in the New York Independent System Operator wholesale market. After the PPA expired, the facility operated on a merchant basis in the NYISO wholesale market. As of 2024–2025, emissions-control equipment underperformance resulted in deration to approximately 47 MW and prompted a planned retirement notice; however, the facility returned to market service in May 2026 under an interim service agreement with NYISO, reflecting its critical role in supporting Long Island bulk-power-system reliability.
