E F Barrett is an operating, dual-fuel electric generating plant located in Island Park, Hempstead, Nassau County, New York. The exact EIA plant (ID 2511) comprises 13 generators with approximately 669.2 MW of nameplate capacity: two 188 MW natural-gas steam turbines placed in service in 1956 and 1963, and eleven combustion turbines including seven 18 MW simple-cycle units installed in 1970 and four 41.8 MW aero-derivative units installed in 1971. The plant is equipped to operate on natural gas (95.9% of fuel mix) and residual or distillate fuel oil (3.6%) as backup.
