New Covert Generating Company announced plans to directly interconnect the plant with PJM. The initiative included a new Segreto substation, a 345-kV transmission line, and transmission-system upgrades, expected to be completed by spring 2016; the plant’s three independently dispatched blocks then supplied the MISO grid.
A $555 million syndicated loan was committed to refinance the 1,176-MW facility. The structure included a $483.65 million Term Loan A tranche and two letter-of-credit tranches of $41.78 million and $13.22 million, with original final maturity dates of June 29, 2025.
Consumers Energy Company, as buyer, signed a purchase and sale agreement with New Covert Generating Company, LLC, as seller, for the facility. The base purchase price was $810 million plus closing-date net working capital.
