Osage City
Osage City is a natural-gas internal-combustion-engine power plant with 11.1 MW of nameplate capacity across seven operating units in Osage County, Kansas. The city describes the facility as capable of producing 9,700 kilowatts from six dual-fuel (natural gas or diesel) engines and two Caterpillar-powered generators, making it a peaking and backup resource for the local grid rather than a baseload plant. In 2025 the Kansas Department of Health and Environment processed an air-quality construction permit for the plant covering two existing Caterpillar 3516B non-emergency engines, with the facility capped at 6,125,000 kWh annually across all its stationary engines to stay under major-source air permitting thresholds. No units are retired and no whole-plant retirement is scheduled; the plant continues to run under EIA-860, with generating units dating from 1955 through a 2011 addition.
