Priest Rapids Dam is a 950-megawatt conventional hydroelectric plant with ten generating units in Grant County, Washington. The dam sits on the Columbia River and is owned and operated by Public Utility District No. 2 of Grant County, a public power utility that built it in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It forms one half of the FERC-licensed Priest Rapids Hydroelectric Project (No. 2114), which also includes the downstream Wanapum development. In 2008 FERC granted Grant PUD a new 44-year operating license covering both dams, extending authorized operation to April 2052 as long as license conditions are met. All ten Priest Rapids units remain in commercial operation, with no whole-plant or unit retirement scheduled.
