Rensselaer Cogen
Rensselaer Cogen is an operating 88.2 MW natural-gas-fired combined-cycle electric generating facility located at 39 Riverside Avenue in Rensselaer, New York. The facility began operation in April 1994 and is owned and operated by Rensselaer Generating LLC. It consists of one combined-cycle generating unit comprising a combustion turbine, supplemental duct burners, heat-recovery steam generator, and steam turbine generator, configured to use natural gas as the primary fuel and distillate fuel oil as backup. The plant originally supplied electricity and process steam, but the steam-sales agreement with BASF Corporation expired at the end of 1999; it has since produced electricity only.
