SEMASS Resource Recovery
SEMASS Resource Recovery is a municipal solid waste power plant in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, with two operating generating units totaling 98.5 MW of nameplate capacity (80.0 MW net summer). The facility is currently owned by Reworld, the waste-to-energy company formerly known as Covanta. Located off Cranberry Highway in the Rochester/West Wareham area, SEMASS serves nearly 40 participating communities across Cape Cod, southeastern Massachusetts, and the Boston metropolitan area with waste disposal and electricity. Since starting up in 1988, the facility has processed more than one million tons of municipal solid waste a year, more than a fifth of all MSW generated in Massachusetts annually. Both of the plant's generating units remain in service, with no whole-plant retirement scheduled in EIA's generator records.
