Sidney A Murray Jr Hydroelectric
The Sidney A. Murray Jr. Hydroelectric Station is a 192 MW run-of-the-river hydro plant on the Mississippi River in Concordia Parish, Louisiana, built into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Old River Control Complex about 40 miles south of Vidalia. Eight 24 MW bulb turbines, all in service since 1990, use the river's natural head at the control structure rather than an impoundment dam, and the plant was famous at the time as the largest prefabricated power station ever floated into place. It operates under FERC License No. 2854, issued in 1982 and set to expire December 27, 2031, with the Town of Vidalia as co-licensee. All eight generators remain in operation with no retirements scheduled, and the plant settles into MISO at Entergy Louisiana-area nodes near Baton Rouge.
